Despite maintaining a ghost-like presence, we can trace our roots back to Southern France in the year of 980 AD. By that period in history we had established ourselves in agriculture and trade throughout Europe. By the 1100s we had largely moved to modern day England where we continued to maintain residency through the 1600s and enjoyed positions within Royal court which resulted in many members being granted high positions, land, and several titles of peerage. By the mid-1600s a few members migrated to what is now The United States and established more farms and operations in the Colony of Virginia.
By the 1800s The Rives Family had become a political powerhouse in Virginia with members serving as diplomats, judges, and senators. Following vast media coverage in the 1880s and 1890s we decided to remove ourselves from public view and continued to intentionally become silent operators throughout the 20th and 21st century.
With the advent of the internet and now social media we have decided that it’s not so wise to be complete ghosts. We continue to maintain a very private presence within the public eye and abstain from public media as much as possible but rather we offer a small glimpse into the fact that we do exist via philanthropy which has benefitted all seven continents.
You may not know who we are and not everyone with the last name of Rives is one of us but there’s a good chance you’ve benefitted from our work without knowing.
